China's Chengdu trials new airport with an eye on inland opening-up
00:52

The Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is now in trial with test flights by six major airlines. Officials said that Terminal 1 and 2 will be completed by the end of March, and constructors are now adding the final touches. Chengdu Tianfu International Airport aims to be a national aviation hub and was proposed in the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020). The unified and integrated management of airports will improve efficiency with more wisely-allocated air freight resources. The new airport will serve as an air bridgehead to expand opening-up in China's central and western regions to the rest of the world.
