Conor McGregor, one of the mixed martial arts area's biggest names, was knocked out by Dustin Poirier of the United States in the second round of their lightweight bout during the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates on Sunday.
McGregor was pressed to the cage by the American in the middle of the first round, but still made advantage in significant punches. During the break in between rounds, Poirier had to receive more injury treatment.
Even in Round 2, McGregor caught Poirier's left kicks several times, however, "The Notorious" didn't escape from the later punch storm when he was totally controlled by "The Diamond" at the cage, and finally finished his journey in Yas Island with bleeding nose, lying on the canvas.
It was the third time McGregor has returned from retirement and also the second fight against Poirier, since they fought six years ago with McGregor knocking out the latter at the 1:46 mark. The 32-year-old Irish didn't send the same smashing to his peer as what he did to Donald "The Cowboy" Cerrone in the UFC 246 one year before.
