Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday sent a congratulatory message to Portugal's President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on his reelection.

In his message, President Xi hailed the time-proven relationship between China and Portugal as the two countries join hand to fight against COVID-19, adding that new progress has also been made in pragmatic cooperation in other areas.

He spoke highly of the development of the bilateral ties and called on the two countries to work together to promote the relationship to a higher level in order to bring more benefits to the two peoples.
