International Holocaust Remembrance Day observed

Commemorations were held across Europe to mark the annual International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27. The day was set by the United Nations in 2005 to honor the 6 million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and millions of other victims of Nazism. /CFP

A live event including honor guards and wreath-laying was held at the Ghetto Heroes Monument in Warsaw, Poland. /CFP

People installed "stumbling stones" for the victims during the memorial in Turin, Italy. Each brass plaque represents a life taken in the holocaust. /CFP

Representatives of the Jewish community in Kiev, Ukraine, including Chief Rabbi of Kiev Jonathan Benjamin Markovitch (2R), planted trees at the Babi Yar memorial. /CFP

Commemorations also took place in Germany. Flowers and candles were seen at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin. /CFP
