Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday that reform of the United Nations Security Council should include more representation from developing countries, giving them greater opportunities to participate in the decision-making process to reflect justice and fairness.

Wang made the remarks during a meeting with Joanna Wronecka and Alya bint Ahmed Al Thani, co-chairs of the intergovernmental negotiations on Security Council reform of the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly, via a video link from Beijing.

Wronecka and Al Thani are also permanent representatives of the Poland and Qatar, respectively, to the UN.

Wang said that reform is closely associated with the future development of the UN and the interests of member countries. It should adhere to extensive consultation and should be carried out in an orderly manner, he added.

The two envoys said they appreciated China's efforts in championing multilateralism and the UN's role. They said that they will continue to keep in touch with member countries including China and take in consideration their advice on advancing reform.
