Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday sent a message of sympathy to Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador over his infection with COVID-19.

In the message, Xi extended his sympathy and wished Lopez Obrador a speedy recovery.

Xi said he believes Mexico, under the leadership of Lopez Obrador, will win the battle against COVID-19, while reiterating China's firm support to the Mexican government and Mexican people in their fight against the virus.

Lopez Obrador, 67, announced on Sunday on his Twitter that he had tested positive for COVID-19 with "mild symptoms" and is currently undergoing treatment.

"As always, I am optimistic. We will all move forward," wrote the president.
