The series, a joint production by CMG's English Global Programming Center and Technical Department, comprises five episodes, each 30 minutes in length. Almost a year in the making, it creates a close-up real-life experience through the use of innovative 8K UHD and 3D audio technologies.

Filmed in various parts of China, "Unexplored Land" ranges from the Qinling Mountains in Shaanxi Province to Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture and Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province, from the Changbai Mountains in Jilin Province to Yancheng City in Jiangsu Province. A huge quantity of priceless footage was obtained through many hours of patient waiting and tracking in the field. The stories offer an insight into the life and habitat of the Sichuan snub-nosed monkey, the golden takin and other rare wildlife in the Qinling Mountains; it covers the migration and battle for survival of Asian elephants in the tropical rainforest and the growth and grooming of Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys; and it follows the hatching and first flight of the Chinese merganser, and the mortal combat between aspiring leaders of a Père David's deer community on the Yancheng wetland.

By presenting the great diversity of China's ecosystem and shedding fresh light on the concept of harmony and a shared future between humans and nature, "Unexplored Land" offers a unique perspective on China's ecological civilization.
