About 100 white-lipped deer, also known as Thorold's deer, were recently spotted on the Qilian Mountains in northwest China's Gansu Province.
The deer, distinguished by the white lower lips, is a threatened species under first-class state protection in China. Normally, they live in areas 3,600 to 4,100 meters above sea level.
The herd was spotted in Yanchiwan National Nature Reserve, Subei Mongolian Autonomous County. They were found foraging and bathing in the sun.
Apart from the deer, Tibetan wild asses and gazelles were also seen roaming in the reserve.
