An article by Chinese President Xi Jinping on strengthening intellectual property protection and stimulating the vitality of innovation while fostering a new pattern of development will be published Monday.

The article by Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, will be published in the third issue of the Qiushi Journal.

The article hails the progress made in intellectual property protection with the improvement of the relevant legal system. It also reminds people of the shortcomings that are left to be solved.

Viewing innovation as the primary driving force for development, the article calls for great efforts to protect intellectual property so as to protect all innovative work and build the country into an innovation power.

According to the article, China is transforming from being a big importer of intellectual property to a big inventor of intellectual property. The transformation requires a deeper reform on the mechanism of protection work to strengthen the rule of law in protection work and better promote international cooperation and competition in this regard.

Noting the important role governments of all levels play in the protection work, the article also calls on officials to improve their consciousness on intellectual property protection and shoulder the responsibility to promote the protection work to a higher level.
