The Myanmar military claimed on Monday to have discovered over 10.48 million errors on the voters list during the country's general elections on November 8, 2020.

The specific figure was 10,482,116, Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services Min Aung Hlaing said at a meeting held in the capital city of Nay Pyi Taw, citing a review of publicly released voters list by the Union Election Commission (UEC).

The military said it was "forced to take power in accordance with the constitution" after the government and the UEC failed to explain the results.

The Myanmar President's Office on Monday declared a one-year state of emergency after the military detained government leaders including the Myanmar's State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint.

According to the Myanmar military, new elections will be held after the end of a one-year state of emergency, and it will return the state power to the new government.
