Tokyo Olympics to go ahead as scheduled in July while COVID-19 cases surging

Japan is expected to extend its month-long state of emergency as the number of COVID-19 infections nears the 400,000 mark. CGTN reporter Grace Lee said that Japan is seeing an alarming increase in numbers dying at home while waiting for hospital beds. As for the issues holding the Tokyo Olympics this year, Japanese officials have said that the games will go ahead as scheduled in July. But foreign athletes will not be able to enter Japan for preparation due to sweeping travel bans.
