Media professionals from across the world on Wednesday called for more cooperation to safeguard the objective and fair order of news dissemination and provide factual and reliable news content to the world at the 10th Global Video Media Forum.

The forum, hosted by CCTV Video News Agency (CCTV+), centered on the theme of "Media collaboration, Win-Win future" as 63 foreign delegates from 56 organizations in 42 countries and representatives from the China Media Group (CMG) gathered to discuss cooperative strategies for global media organizations.

CMG President Shen Haixiong delivered an opening speech at the forum, examining the importance of media cooperation.

"Media is a tool to strengthen the bond of mutual understanding and trust, and to bridge the hearts of people," he said.

Shen noted that from the time that COVID-19 first struck, the CMG and international peer media organizations have exchanged nearly 400 correspondences to show solidarity, emphasize responsibility, and build consensus.

Shen said it was regretful to see that some media outlets have chosen to turn a blind eye to justice, ignore their conscience, and hold strong biases against China. Some are even helping spread rumors and running against the principle that news reporting must respect truths.

"We wish to call on our colleagues all around the world to stay true to our mission and join hands in sharing public information fairly and responsibly," he said.

Teng Yunping, the President of CCTV+, said under the current global context, building a more comprehensive and inclusive global media partnership is an important issue to strengthen the exchange and cooperation between media organizations from China and other countries.

In the international cooperative effort to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, reporting reliable news, authoritative information, and adherence to the facts not only reflect the professional ability and level of the media but also test their social responsibility and conscience, Teng said.

"In a world where journalism is under pressure but never more needed, it's vital that we continue to work together," said John Pullman, the Global Head of Video and Pictures at Reuters. Noting CCTV+ as a partner on Reuters Connect, Pullman said that partnership and collaboration lie at the heart of good journalism. And the Global Video Media Forum itself is just one example of collaboration in action.

The Global Director of Video Products at the Associated Press (AP) Paul Shanley also spoke highly of the collaboration between AP and CCTV+ in his speech. "Content partnerships, like the excellent partnership AP and CCTV+, have formed, allow us to provide our audience with a greater selection of content than ever before without a significant increase in costs," said Shanley.

The Managing Director of the European News Exchange (ENEX), Adrian Wells, said journalists need to maintain an international perspective on this crisis and help the audiences truly compare the efficiency of the responses in their own country. He expressed his willingness to do more interactions between the ENEX and CCTV+ as well.

During the forum, CCTV+ and RUPTLY signed a cooperation agreement on the new "China Business Video" program to deepen cooperation in content and strengthen the level of resource sharing and integration.

The forum also released the Blue Book of Global Communication Ecosystem (2020). Gao Wei, the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of CCTV+, gave a presentation on the development of the media in global communication trends since 2019.

A joint declaration was issued by six partnership alliances initiated and established by CCTV+, including the "Belt and Road News Alliance," "European Media Partners," "Socios Latinoamericanos," "Africa Link Union," the "Pacific Island Partners," and a domestic-focused alliance called "Newsharing," calling on global media to boost mutual assistance and achieve win-win cooperation.
