Israel carried out a missile strike on Wednesday night against Syrian military sites in southern Syria, according to state TV.

The attack was carried out from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, as Israel fired surface-to-surface and air-to-surface missiles on targets in southern Syria, said the report, citing a military statement.

It added that the Syrian air defenses intercepted most of the missiles, which left no casualties and losses were only material damages.

Syrian forces responded late on Wednesday to "Israeli aggression" in the south of the country, according to the state news agency Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

Israel launched missiles from the disputed Golan heights at around 11:00 p.m. and caused material damage, SANA reported, citing a military source.

"Our anti-air defences responded... and intercepted most of the enemy missiles," the source added.

The attack is the latest by Israeli forces against Syrian sites, and witnesses in Damascus claimed they heard sounds of explosions.

Israel usually strikes Syrian sites over the pretext that it's targeting positions of pro-Iran militias in Syria.

On January 22, four civilians, including two children, were killed by Israeli strikes in the Syrian province of Hama, SANA reported.
