Chinese performers found guilty of misconduct may be permanently banned from the industry, according to a rule issued by the China Association of Performing Arts on Friday.

The rule states that performers found guilty of misconduct will encounter a joint boycott from members of the China Association of Performing Arts in a period from one year, three years, five years to permanency.

These performers should apply within three months before the boycott period's expiration, and only after approval can they continue to engage in performance activities.

The move came when some performers were accused of setting a bad example for young people and ignited heated debates over performers' misconducts.

Earlier in January, Chinese actress Zheng Shuang was suspected of abandoning two of her children born to U.S.-based surrogate mothers.

In December of 2020, director and writer Guo Jingming and screenwriter Yu Zheng, who were identified as plagiarizers in the court rulings, were boycotted by 156 practitioners in China's film and television industry for their appearance on the web and TV programs as mentors.
