U.S. President Joe Biden on Saturday released his first "fireside chats" video, featuring his discussion with a woman who lost her job due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Biden also discusses the importance of his new $1.9 economic relief plan. Biden said the problems caused by the pandemic must be addressed before economic prosperity can be restored and businesses can be opened, and the government is "putting together a plan that provides for emergency relief to people who are desperate now."
The "fireside chats" are a reinstatement of Franklin D Roosevelt's weekly radio address, which sought to speak directly to Americans in the face of several crises to explain the administration's policy decisions. Press Secretary Jen Psaki said Biden will continue that tradition in a variety of forms.
