Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Monday held phone talks with Vietnamese President Nguyen Phu Trong, also general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC).

Xi congratulated Trong again for being elected as the general secretary of the CPV Central Committee and said that under the leadership of Trong and the CPVCC, Vietnam will achieve its national development goals.

Noting that China-Vietnam relations stand at a new historical starting point, Xi called for more efforts in practical cooperation in various aspects so as to further promote healthy and stable development of ties.

The two countries should step up the fostering of the synergy between the Belt and Road and the "Two Corridors, One Economic Circle," and promote the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) to take effect at an early date.

Xi also highlighted strategic significance in bilateral ties, saying that as a community with a shared future, the sustainable, healthy and stable development of relations will bring more benefits to the people in both countries, and make positive contributions to promoting regional and global peace, development and prosperity.

Trong expressed his gratitude for Xi's good wishes and said that tasks for economic and social development in the next five years and the vision for development to 2030 and 2045 have all been set at the 13th CPV National Congress.

Vietnam is willing to work with China in promoting a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, he added.

Vietnam congratulated the CPC on its centenary, he said, wishing China for greater achievements in a new journey to fully build a modern socialist country.

The two leaders also sent New Year greetings to each other and wished the two peoples happiness and health.
