Beijing condemns Taiwan leader's pre-Spring Festival address for distorting facts

A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Tuesday admonished Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority for its attempts to trick people on the island into believing its distorted facts of the cross-Strait relations.

The remarks were made by Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, when responding to a question about the pre-Spring Festival address made by the leader of Taiwan, claiming the key to peace in the Taiwan Strait is in the mainland's hands.

The DPP authority should take full responsibility for the current status of the cross-Strait relations, Ma said, noting that the DPP's refusal to accept the 1992 Consensus, their obstruction of cross-Strait exchanges, and colluding with external forces for "independence" have imposed obstacles to cross-Strait exchanges.

Ma urged the DPP authority to stop seeking secession and return to the common political foundation of the 1992 Consensus.
