A batch of COVID-19 vaccines provided by China will arrive in Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday, said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin on Tuesday.

It will be the first batch of donations from China to African countries, said Wang, adding it shows China is fulfilling its promise of making Chinese vaccines a global public good.

Wang stressed this donation also fulfills President Xi Jinping's promise, made at the Extraordinary China-Africa Summit on Solidarity against COVID-19 in June 2020, that once China completes the development and deployment of the COVID-19 vaccine, African countries will be among the first to benefit.

Describing China and Equatorial Guinea as true and reliable friends and brothers, Wang said China quickly provided vaccines to Equatorial Guinea to help the African country fight the pandemic.

Wang said China is willing to cooperate with African countries, including Equatorial Guinea, on COVID-19 vaccines and try its best to meet African counterparts' demands, thus defeating the virus and accelerating the common development in the post-pandemic era.
