U.S. congressman Ron Wright died on Sunday, weeks after contracting COVID-19, his congressional office announced in a statement Monday.
The Texas Republican, 67, who had been battling cancer for years, was admitted to the hospital after contracting COVID-19 on January 21.
Wright is the first sitting member of Congress to die of COVID-19.
