With Chinese Lunar New Year around the corner, many amateur calligraphers have written Chunlian, or Spring Festival couplets, for their fellow villagers in Linyi County, north China's Shanxi Province. Chunlian are a pair of auspicious poetic lines written in black ink on red paper. Pasting Chunlian on doors is one of the oldest Spring Festival traditions, believed to bring good luck for the upcoming year.
