Zinedine Zidane, manager of La Liga's heavyweights Real Madrid, admitted that him coaching the French national football team "could be a possibility one day" at the press conference on Saturday ahead of the game against Valencia.

Real Madrid are looking at a quite unpleasant season after they were eliminated from both the Spanish Supercopa and Copa del Rey. Having finished 22 games in La Liga with 46 points, they are in third place trailing Barcelona (46 points) and Atletico Madrid (54 points and one fewer game played).

That's why it's only understandable for his manager position to be questioned, especially after Noël Le Graët, President of the French Football Federation (FFF), named Zidane the first candidate for coaching France in an interview with French radio station RTL on Saturday.

"If Didier (Deschamps) leaves and I'm still here, the first person I'd see would be Zidane. I have a really good relationship with him," said Le Graët.

Deschamps led France to win a championship in the FIFA World Cup in Russia in 2018. When he and Zidane were teammates in the French national team, they won the titles of both the World Cup at home in 1998 and the UEFA European Football Championship in the Netherlands in 2000. Deschamps's contract will run until the World Cup in 2022 and that's when Zidane's deal will end as well.

"My relationship with Le Graet is good. We've known each other since 1998. It could be an objective one day. I've said it before, when I started coaching 10 years ago, that it's something that could be a possibility one day," said Zidane at the press conference on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the 48-year-old stressed that currently he's only focusing on coaching Real Madrid.

"Right now I'm here. I'm enjoying what I'm doing here. In the future we'll see, you never know. But my mind is on the day-to-day here at Real Madrid. I'm the coach of Real Madrid today and what I'll do is make the most of every moment I have. The rest, the future we don't ever talk about and we won't. It's the present, what we're doing now," said Zidane.

Real Madrid will have two important players, Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez, back from injury for the game against Valencia on Sunday. Moreover, Zidane said that Eden Hazard, who was expected to be out for six weeks because of a muscular problem, is recovering faster than they thought.
