Two people were confirmed dead, 14 others injured and 16 unaccounted for in landslides and floods triggered by heavy rain that hit Indonesia's East Java province on Sunday.

Rescuers have retrieved two bodies and rescued two people in Nganjuk district.

"Heavy lifting equipment is currently on its way to the location. And 16 people are still not found," Aris Trio Effendi, coordinator of the emergency response unit at Nganjuk Social Affairs Agency, was quoted by state news agency Antara as saying on Monday.

Local authorities have dispatched a 200-strong rescue team to the affected area.
