Inter Milan's Romelu Lukaku scored twice and set up another goal as they beat visitors Lazio 3-1 on Sunday to move a point above AC Milan at the top of the Serie A standings.

Lukaku opened the scoring with a penalty in the 22nd minute, before the Belgian striker doubled the advantage with his 300th career goal for club and country just before halftime.

Lazio piled on the pressure after the break and got themselves back in the game through a bizarre goal from substitute Gonzalo Escalante in the 61st minute.

But Lukaku helped Inter to have the final say three minutes later when he raced clear on the counter before setting up Argentine strike partner Lautaro Martinez to complete the win.

The result moves Inter above Milan onto 50 points from 22 games before the top two meet in next Sunday's mouthwatering derby clash at San Siro.

Lazio's first defeat in eight league games leaves them seventh on 40 points.

Meanwhile, Manchester United had a 1-1 draw with struggling West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, leaving them second in the Premier League but seven points adrift of Manchester City.

West Brom, who need a remarkable turnaround to avoid relegation, stunned their visitors with a second-minute goal from on-loan Senegalese striker Mbaye Diagne who beat defender Victor Lindelof to head home.

United looked lethargic for the rest of the half, but their inspirational Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes stepped up yet again in the 44th minute with a spectacular volley from near the penalty spot.

Fernandes has now been directly involved in 38 goals in his first 38 Premier League appearances, 22 goals and 16 assists.

In another Premier League match, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a hat-trick as Arsenal saw off a Leeds rally for a thrilling 4-2 win at the Emirates stadium in London on Sunday.

Aubameyang had not started a game for nearly a month after having to quarantine following an overseas visit to his sick mother.

The Arsenal captain had scored just five league goals all season in a frustrating campaign for the Gunners, but he took full advantage of Leeds' expansive style to score his first Premier League hat-trick.
