Chile began its mass vaccination rollout for teachers and other workers in the school system on February 15. The vaccination started with teachers and education assistants over the age of 60, one week before the initial scheduled plan by the Ministry of Health. In the following days, more than half a million people who work in Chile's education system will be vaccinated. Education professionals are unwilling to resume face-to-face classes proposed by the government for March until the teachers receive their second dose of the Chinese Sinovac vaccine.
Chile has vaccinated a higher proportion of its citizens than any other country in the region. Almost 2 million have been inoculated out of a total population of 19 million.
