East China's Shandong Province will immediately conduct blanket safety inspections on the non-coal mines across the province till the end of March and allow them to resume production only after meeting the safety qualifications, Shandong Emergency Management Office said in a video conference on Wednesday.
The statement came after a deadly fire in a gold mine in Zhaoyuan City claimed six lives on Wednesday. It was the second Shandong mine accident in around one month. In January, 22 workers were trapped by explosions at Hushan mine, where 11 were pulled out alive after spending two weeks underground, 10 confirmed dead and one was still unaccounted for.
