Japan's Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has decided to appoint Tamayo Marukawa as the next Olympic minister following Seiko Hashimoto's resignation, NHK reported Thursday.

Hashimoto on Thursday resigned from the cabinet, a prerequisite for taking the job as head of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics organizing committee.
