Spring Festival economy in China

As the week-long Spring Festival holiday ends, many Chinese ended up staying at home this year, due to pandemic restrictions. But with travel down, online shopping and box office receipts boomed. So how has the domestic economy done overall this holiday season? What new patterns of consumption are emerging in China, and elsewhere as the pandemic continues? And with the global economy still struggling, what are China’s economic prospects in the months to come?

To discuss these issues and more, we’ve invited Wang Dan, Chief Economist at the Hang Seng Bank China; Andy Mok, Senior Research Fellow at the Center for China and Globalization; and Michele Geraci, former Under Secretary of State at Italy’s Ministry of Economic Development.
