China is willing to work with Qatar to practice multilateralism and defend the common interests of developing countries, senior Chinese diplomat Yang Jiechi said on Saturday.
Yang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks during his meeting with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha.
China supports the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to strengthen unity and cooperation and jointly promote regional stability and development, Yang said.
He added that China fully supports Qatar in hosting the 2022 World Cup and will continue to support Chinese companies in overcoming the adverse impact of the pandemic and completing the construction of relevant stadiums on schedule with high quality.
For his part, Tamim said that Qatar is willing to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in energy, investment, digital economy, culture, infrastructure construction and other fields within the framework of jointly building the Belt and Road.
Qatar abides by the one-China principle, opposes foreign interference in China's internal affairs and supports China in safeguarding its core interests, he added, calling for efforts in strengthening coordination with China on international affairs and jointly promoting world peace and stability.
