Taxi drivers are responsible for 75 percent (about 15 million people) of daily transport in South Africa. With the spread of COVID-19, the drivers face difficulties such as diminished business, passengers who don't always wear masks and sitting in taxis with passengers all day long, which increases the risk of getting infected. However, the drivers continue to fight: Before work starts, they sanitize the taxi and passengers' hands to ensure safety. Without such transportation services, South Africa's economy would have come to a halt.

A stringer in South Africa followed Sabina Mahlase for a day. As a taxi driver for over 30 years, she demonstrates how COVID-19 has affected her livelihood and the lives of her passengers.
