U.S. President Joe Biden on Monday ordered flags at federal properties to fly at half-mast as COVID-19 deaths in the United States surpassed 500,000. Later in the evening, Biden was joined by First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff at the White House's South Portico for a moment of silence.
