The Chinese government will hold a ceremony on Thursday to mark the accomplishment of ending extreme poverty. In over 40 years of reform and opening-up, 750 million people have been lifted out of extreme poverty. For rural residents, China has an absolute poverty line of around 4,000 yuan ($619).
