CPC leadership meets to discuss draft of the 14th Five-Year Plan

The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee met on Friday to discuss the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025, FYP) for National Economic and Social Development, the draft on Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035, and a government work report.

The regulations on the work at primary-level Party organizations in higher education institutions were deliberated at the meeting. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the meeting.

Participants at the meeting hailed the remarkable achievements made during the 13th FYP period (2016-2020) with all goals achieved aiming at building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, a decisive victory in poverty eradication, a stabilized economy, a higher level of opening-up and better living conditions for people. 

The 14th FYP period will be the first five years of China embarking on a new journey to fully build a modern socialist country. Participants pointed out that discussing the 14th FYP and 2035 Long-Range Objectives is of great significance in consolidating the achievements in poverty alleviation and building a moderately prosperous society.

Stressing that seeking progress while maintaining stability should remain as the basic tone for policy-making, participants noted that promoting high-quality development and making supply-side structural reform should be the central theme while taking reform and innovation as the fundamental driving force.

To meet the people's ever-growing needs for a better life, the members of the committee also called for greater efforts in building a modern economic system with a new development pattern featuring "dual circulation" and a modern national governance system so as to set up a good beginning for the country's course of fully building a modern socialist country.

Noting the worldwide spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty in the global situation, the members underscored the importance of consolidating the epidemic prevention and control work while securing progress made in economic and social development.

They stressed the need to maintain the continuity, stability and sustainability of macro policies in order to meet development goals set for this year.

It also highlighted enhancement on employment policies and the full implementation of the rural vitalization strategy.
