The Atlanta Braves extended the contract of their manager, Brian Snitker, through the 2023 season, with a club option for 2024, announced the team on Friday.

"I am thrilled that Brian will continue to lead our club on the field and in the clubhouse. Three consecutive division titles speak to the impact of Brian and his staff, and we are pleased that he will continue to guide our club through 2023," said Alex Anthopoulos, president of baseball operations of the Braves, in a statement.

Snitker took over the team in the middle of the 2016 season, and in 2017, the Braves finished his first full season with only 70 wins. However, in the following three seasons, their records were 90-72, 97-65, and 35-25, respectively. They were the National League East leader for all three seasons and once led 3-1 over the Los Angeles Los Dodgers in the NL Championship Series last season.

That's why the Braves have every reason to keep the 65-year-old manager, who, by the way, has already worked for the team for 45 years. He signed with the team in 1977 as an un-drafted free agent in 1977. After his short player career, Snitker spent decades coaching the minor league teams, including the Anderson Braves, Durham Bulls, Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Mississippi Braves, and Richmond Braves, before taking over the major league squad.

Snitker has led the team to 353 wins, the fourth-most in franchise record since the team moved to Atlanta in 1966. He has a very good chance of surpassing Fredi Gonzalez (432) and Lum Harris (379) in the following seasons and moving closer toward Bobby Cox (2,058).

"It feels good. I'm not one that worries about that kind of thing, honestly. If this was going to be my last year or whatever, I would give it everything I've got. But it's nice, obviously, that someone thinks enough of you to extend that kind of package," said Snitker after the spring training workout on Friday, according to the Associated Press.

"It's refreshing being around all these guys. They keep me young and feeling good and wanting to come back. I stay energized by these players. And knowing and respecting how they go about it, and appreciating what they do, is a big thing that allows them to relax and just enjoy what they're doing."
