A group of Chinese merganzers, an endangered bird, was spotted on January 23 at a reservoir in Jingzhou City, central China's Hubei Province.

Amateur photographer Zhang Yehua in Jingzhou took the photos on his regular trip across the city's waters to photograph migratory birds.

Zhang recalled that the birds were very vigilant so he had to wait for half the day to take these photographs. 

The birds flew from northeast China in December to Jingzhou and will stay until March when they return to their breeding grounds.
