The game schedule for the men's and women's basketball competitions in the Tokyo Olympics were confirmed by FIBA on Monday: the men's event will begin on July 25 and end on August 7, the women's games will happen between July 26 and August 8.

Each event will have 12 teams compete first in three groups. Top teams of each group plus the two best third-placed ones will make the quarterfinals.

There are already eight qualified teams for men's event and they are: USA, Spain, Argentina, France, Australia, Iran, Nigeria and the host Japan. The other four Olympic spots will go to the four top teams from the qualifiers in Canada's Victoria, Lithuania's Kaunas, Croatia's Split and Serbia's Belgrade.

China will be competing against Canada and Greece, both of which have more than one NBA player.

Day one of the men's basketball event in Tokyo will include four games and the most eye-catching one will be France vs. Team USA. In the FIBA Basketball World Cup in China in 2019, France defeated Team USA in the quarterfinals but they did not send their best players to the World Cup.

The quarterfinals and semifinals for men's event will happen on August 3 and 5 respectively. The bronze-medal and the final game will both happen on August 7.

China has qualified for the women's event and it's in Group C with Australia, Belgium and Puerto Rico, who will be China's first opponent on July 27.

The quarterfinals, semifinals, bronze-medal game and final game for in the women's event will take place on August 4, 6, 7 and 8 respectively.
