Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday said that the glorious traditions and fine work styles of the Communist Party of China (CPC) are "precious spiritual treasure" for officials.

Xi, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the statement during the opening ceremony of a training program for young and middle-aged officials at the Party School of CPC Central Committee (National Academy of Governance).

To earn the support of the people, the party must consistently carry forward the glorious traditions and fine style of the Party, Xi noted.

He also called on young officials to strive for making contributions to fully building a modern socialist country.

Noting that the once-in-a-century major shift in the world landscape is picking up speed, Xi said China is in a critical moment for achieving national rejuvenation as the country has made historic achievements in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and scored a complete victory in its fight against poverty.

China is embarking on a journey to fully build a modern socialist country but Xi pointed out the country still faces many difficulties and challenges while going forward.

He stressed the importance of improving party conduct when tackling these challenges so as to win the hearts of the people.

Xi also instructed officials to take practical action to demonstrate their loyalty to the Party: "Loyalty to the Party is the primary political character of the CPC."

The young officials should take their forefathers and martyrs as a mirror and the negative examples as a warning to improve political judgment, political comprehension and political implementation ability, he added.

Calling for enhancing theoretical learning, Xi said it is necessary to arm officials and cadres with Marxist theory in their development.

He slammed bureaucracy and formalism while emphasizing a down-to-earth way on performing duties.

Xi also called on officials and cadres to place the people at the top in their hearts, noting "the people are the source of our strength."

Young officials must improve the capability of engaging with the people and always adhere to their original intention and mission of seeking happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenating for the Chinese nation, Xi said, stressing the principle of "serving the people wholeheartedly."

Xi urged continued efforts to give the people a greater sense of fulfillment, happiness, and security.

He also told the officials to enhance self-cultivation, self-discipline and self-reform.

'"Fighting spirit" is the most distinctive part of our Party's character,' Xi said, adding that maintaining a fighting spirit and strengthening the ability to struggle is a must

He warned of the growing complexity of risks and tests as China enters a new development stage, follows a new development philosophy and fosters a new development paradigm. He stressed the long-term nature of various struggles, and called for the courage to fight and the mettle to win.

Frugality is the cherished tradition of the CPC, Xi noted, adding that the tradition should not be abandoned even as today's living conditions are improved.

Young officials should be alert to cultivating a positive and healthy interest in life, resolutely resist hedonism and extravagance and preserve a political character of honesty and integrity, he added.
