Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday called on China and Pakistan to conduct higher level cooperation. 

Wang made the remarks during a virtual event, also attended by his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi, marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Pakistan. 

He said that China and Pakistan should firmly promote the construction of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, create new growth points for cooperation, and let the fruits of China-Pakistan cooperation better benefit the people of both countries.  

The two sides should promote the participation of all sectors of society in both countries, especially the young generation, in friendship exchange activities, continuously enhance the understanding and friendship between the two peoples, and strengthen the emerging force to carry forward the China-Pakistan friendship, Wang noted. 

The two countries should practice multilateralism and make new contributions to solving regional hotspot issues, promoting international cooperation in counter-terrorism, and building a community with a shared future, he added. 

Qureshi spoke highly of China's achievements in lifting over 800 million people out of extreme poverty, and vowed to continue his country's support for the Belt and Road Initiative. 

He also announced at the event that China will send another 500,000 doses of the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine to Pakistan.  

The vaccines will be given first to elderly people and other high-risk groups in Pakistan. This is the second batch of COVID-19 vaccines donated by the Chinese government to Pakistan this year.
