China recently unveiled plans to build its strength in the transport sector over the next 15 years. Convenience, cost-effectiveness, green, intelligent and safety are the key factors in China's modern transport system, which is to be completed by 2035. 

But what does creating a modern transport system entail? 

Minister of Transport Li Xiaopeng proposed three methods to strengthen the construction.

"Promote the transportation development systematically in major regions, promote the coordination of transport development between urban and rural regions, and strengthen interconnectivity cooperation," Li told reporters at a press conference on Monday.

The plans state that the National 1-2-3 Travel Circle and the Global 1-2-3 Logistics Circle will take initial shape by 2035 to connect major cities and counties across the country.

What is the National 1-2-3 Travel Circle and the Global 1-2-3 Logistics Circle?

The National 1-2-3 Travel Circle refers to a one-hour commute time in cities, two-hour travel time within city clusters, and three hours to travel between major domestic cities. While the Global 1-2-3 Logistics Circle means a one-day delivery to destinations within China, two-day delivery to neighboring countries, and three-day delivery to major global cities.

The comprehensive transportation network will cover rail, roads, waterways, civil aviation airports and logistic hubs over the next 15 years.

Innovation and technology play key role

Innovation and technology will play an essential role in achieving this goal by 2035.

Li added that the country will promote the digitization and networking of transportation infrastructure, improve the level of smart transportation development, and coordinate development and safety.
