Uruguay started its inoculation campaign Monday focusing first on teachers, soldiers, police, and firefighters, Health Minister Daniel Salinas said. Around 90 vaccination centers countrywide are now open to administer the first dose of the Chinese CoronaVac shot to some 140,000 essential workers. 

The country of 3.4 million people has secured the orders necessary to immunize everyone 18 and older, said Salinas.
