The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top political advisory body, held a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, ahead of the top political advisory body's annual session.
Guo Weimin, a spokesperson for the 13th CPPCC National Committee's fourth session, briefed the media on the session and took questions through video conference due to the COVID-19 pandemic response.
"China's political advisory body has given priority to poverty eradication work, which is a vivid manifestation of the CPPCC's commitment to central tasks," Guo said while answering a question from Associated Press regarding China's poverty alleviation standard. "Experts said China's poverty standard is a comprehensive one and higher than the World Bank's standard of $1.90 per day. The basic living needs of the rural population are met, and their access to education, healthcare, and housing is ensured," the senior official elaborated.
