China will issue more diverse services to help the elderly better adapt to a digital society, said a spokesman for the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) at a press briefing on Wednesday.

Guo Weimin, spokesman for the third session of the 13th CPPCC National Committee, said the elderly facing difficulties in using smartphones have revealed gaps in technological advancement.

He said China has rolled out a national plan last November to help the elderly adapt to the digital world.

For example, many cities also accepted ID cards from the elderly who are unable to provide QR codes via cellphone as the code is commonly seen as a mandatory request in public places during the pandemic. He also mentioned some hospitals also set up the service, especially for the elderly, to help them go through doctor visits easily.

He called for society should take actions to help the elderly as well as the young need to engage with the elderly more to catch up with the latest technological advancements. Nobody should be left behind.
