When we talk about human rights, what do we talk about? A compilation of articles by several Chinese law experts published in English and Chinese could be the answer as it has explored the role of human rights in the country's fight against COVID-19.

In regards to human rights, He Zhipeng, a law professor at northeastern China's Jilin University, said in the book of "Human Rights Protection During China's Fight Against COVID-19" that Western countries should answer it before spreading lies.

"If a person doesn't have a life, what kind of rights can he just enjoy?" Professor He asked, adding that life is really fundamental to all other types of rights.

Echoing his article in the book, Professor He believed it's nonsense to talk about human rights while also ignoring people's right to life.

"Governments should act to do something, but not just keep clear to the society," stressed the professor.

Expert: China respects human rights in battle against COVID-19

From the evolution of COVID-19 from epidemic to pandemic, Liu Huawen, executive director of human rights studies at China's Academy of Social Sciences and one of the book's co-authors, said some countries have kept busy politicizing the virus.

"Ridiculously, it is developed countries that risk a lot of time and sacrifice many things," Professor Liu said.

In the book, Professor Liu and He give a clear explanation of China's measures and efforts to put people's interests first amid the fight against COVID-19.

"Chinese government prioritized its right to live and right to health," explained Professor Liu, accusing certain countries of interfering in the affairs of others while turning a blind eye to their own issues, which is leading some experts to ask: who made these countries into global judges?
