Rukyam Matisad, 25, is among China's youngest lawmakers. The Xinjiang native cares about women's rights, especially those around her. "They no longer have to depend on their husbands. They can get a job now," she told CGTN, adding many local women are working as cloth weavers or shoe repairers. For Rukyam, the best way to pass along locals' concerns is by visiting them in person. "Many people treat me as their daughter or their sister. They tell me everything [about their problems]," she said. The upcoming Two Sessions will mark the fourth time the young Uygur woman attends the political gathering.
