The fourth session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body, opened its annual session in Beijing on Thursday.

Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders attended the opening meeting of the fourth session of the 13th National Committee of the CPPCC, held at the Great Hall of the People.

At the meeting, the agenda for the session was reviewed and approved.

Wang Yang, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee work report to the session.

Wang called for deepening political advisory theoretical study and urged greater self-improvement and enhanced quality of work from CPPCC members.

The CPPCC is a key platform for uniting, advising and guiding representatives of all ethnic groups and sectors of society with the Communist Party of China's (CPC) innovative theories, Wang said, noting that the CPPCC has put in place institutional mechanisms for non-communist parties to present proposals, and co-hosted consultations with non-communist parties and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce.

The CPPCC resolutely supports the principle of "patriots governing Hong Kong" and will strengthen unity and friendship with compatriots overseas and in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, Wang said.

In 2021, the CPPCC will formulate work plans for democratic oversight and carry out consultative oversight over issues related to the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan, he added.
