Zhang Yesui, spokesperson for the fourth session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), said that China always stands for building a China-U.S. relationship featuring no conflict, no confrontation, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation while firmly safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and development interests.
He made the remarks during Thursday's press conference when answering a reporter's question on China-U.S. ties during U.S. President Joe Biden's administration.
"It is natural for China and the United States to have differences on some issues. Decoupling will do harm to others, and confrontation serves no one's interest," he said.
The key to peaceful coexistence is mutual respect, including respect for each other's historical and cultural traditions, he continued, adding that respecting each other's core interests and major concerns and each other's choice of the political system and development path is also important.
"We should respect the basic norms governing international relations, such as non-interference in internal affairs and peaceful settlement of disputes," he said.
