China will continue to intensify efforts to "keep our skies blue, our waters clear and our lands pollution-free," Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said in the annual government work report on Friday.

Premier Li said that China will strengthen comprehensive measures and joint efforts on air pollution prevention and control, with the goal that clean heating accounts for 70 percent of all heating in northern China.

While promoting the clean and efficient use of coal, the country will make a major push to develop new energy sources, and take active and well-ordered steps to develop nuclear energy on the basis of ensuring its safe use, according to the report.

A ban on the importation of solid waste will remain in place, he said, adding that as a member of the global village, China will continue to play its part in the international response to climate change.

China will draw up an action plan for carbon emissions to peak by 2030, achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 and improve its industrial structure and energy mix, he said.
