Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said on Friday that China will improve systems and mechanisms in its Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to safeguard national security and ensure better enforcement of the Constitution and the Basic Law.
Delivering the government work report at the opening of the fourth session of the 13th National People's Congress in Beijing, Li said that improvement work for both the Hong Kong and Macao SARs will guarantee their long-term stability and prosperity on the basis of the "One Country, Two Systems" principle.
China will resolutely guard against and deter external forces' interference in its Hong and Macao affairs as well as any separatist activity seeking "Taiwan Independence," he added.
Li also said that China will remain committed to the major principles and policies on work related to Taiwan, including the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, and continue to promote the peaceful growth of relations across the Taiwan Straits.
Meanwhile, China will improve systems and policies regarding the well-being of Taiwan compatriots, making sure they enjoy the same treatment on China's mainland as local residents, Li added.
