Secretary for Justice Teresa Cheng Yeuk-wah is the latest senior figure in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government to support the central government's move to improve the region's electoral system to ensure steadfast and successful implementation of "One Country, Two Systems."

In a blog published on the official website of the Department of Justice on Saturday, the Senior Counsel pointed out that National People's Congress (NPC) deliberation on a decision to improve the electoral system of Hong Kong to implement "patriots administering Hong Kong" aims at implementing the "One Country, Two Systems" policy unswervingly to ensure the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong, and to safeguard the sovereignty, security and development interests of the country.

Noting that Hong Kong has been disturbed by people advocating openly for "Hong Kong independence," she appealed to the central authorities to take the lead to improve the electoral system of HKSAR, to close "clear loopholes."

In the end, she vowed to lead colleagues at the Department of Justice to assist in completing the legislative amendments with dedicated efforts to implement the decision to improve the HKSAR electoral system at the earliest possible time.
