Due to the pandemic, this year's Berlin Film Festival has been divided into two parts: the online segment was from March 1 to March 5. And the award ceremony will be held from June 9 to June 20.
Film directors Jasmila Žbanić of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Italian Gianfranco Rosi, Hungarian Ildikó Enyedi, Adina Pintilie of Romania, Israeli Nadav Lapid and Iran's Mohammad Rasoulof comprised the main competition judging unit, though no chairperson was designated.
Five of them were in Berlin to review the shortlisted films, while Rasoulof participated remotely.
The arrangement for the announcement of the main awards was very simple, and lasted only about 15 minutes.
The Berlin Film Festival removed the gender classification of performance awards for the first time this year. German actress Marlen Egert won the Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance for the movie "I'm Your Man" and Hungarian actress Lilla Kizlinger won the Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance for "Forest – I See You Everywhere."
