The Red Detachment of Women (Hong Se Niang Zi Jun) is a classical Chinese ballet that was created in 1964. It tells the story of Qionghua, a slave girl who escapes from the clutches of a wealthy landowner. She joins the Red Army and is eventually able to exact her revenge on her former oppressor and the system he represents. This year, the National Ballet of China will stage this ballet to mark the International Women's Day on March 8. Performances will take place at the Tianqiao Theater from March 6 to 9. CGTN's ICON visits the company during rehearsals and brings you a sneak preview of this fascinating show.
